Backpacker's Hostel or Family Hostel? Need recommendation from

Posted in Germany forum

Hi,

I intend to travel at the end of this year to a few cities in Europe and have been planning my budget with my mates. I have looked up at a few options from http://www.hostels.com/ as recommended by a fellow traveler.

I was told to skip the expensive Hotels as i would be travelling and sigh-seeing the whole day so makes no sense to book a expensive place and spend that budget elsewhere.. I need advice on whether i should choose a Family Hostel or a Backpacker's Hostel? I am too old for the Youth Hostel as i was told they have a age limit of 25 years :(

Is there a Airbnb or similar option in Frankfurt and Munich??

Some of the usual listing sites have review options, but most private places are so small that not many reviews are actually present.

    Thank you Frank.

what about user or customer reviews about these places? any user review sites that someone could suggest?

Which type of accommodation you choose depends on your personal preferences as much as on local availability.
You can use a cheaper hotel (some cost as little as €40/night, but you get what you pay for), backpacker hostel or family B&B (which cost slightly less than cheap hotels) or AirBNB or youth hostels (which have an age limit only in Bavaria, as far as I know) or Couchsufing, which is completely free.
Not all of them are available everywhere, and costs vary. So check relevant listings and decide individually for each place you visit!
