Moving to Gibraltar this month, looking for new Friends!

Posted in Gibraltar forum

Hey there. :-)

As the title already states I'll be moving to "the Rock" by the end of this month, on the 24th to be precise and I'm very excited about it!
I'm living in Barcelona right now and will leave all of my dear friends behind here. :(
I do love social media but I prefer having friends to hang out with and explore, experience new things with. :-)

Shortly about me: I'm 31, love sports, movies and music and I'm mostly up for anything!
I like to have fun and meet new people to share the fun with, I'm a bit crazy... well probably more than just a bit but also very reliable and I hate lying. Mostly I'm very direct and speak my mind and I love to discuss things.

If anyone wants to know more about me, please feel free to post here or ask me in private I will gladly reply all questions.
I am an open book and there is not much I have to hide.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I'm looking forward to hopefully meet many new and interesting people!
-Matt

    Hey there. :)

I'm good thanks, hope you are as well.

I do life in Spain to say it directly because Gibraltar is not really affordable.
My flat here has 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms and is 700€ including all bills and I share it so it's rather cheap for almost 130m².

The average rent in Gib starts at 800 GBP for a very tiny place with 1 room without any bills.
Places with 2 rooms and 1 bathroom can go from 1000 up to over 3000 and even if the living quality is good, the price is really killing.
Internet in Gib is bad, really bad and expensive, 15MB lines for 40 GBP or so, whilst in La Linea I get full 100 MBit fiber for 40€ a month. ;)

    Hope that helps a bit.

So best to check both sides and decide for yourself. :)

    All the best,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

    How are you?

I see that you've recently moved to Gibraltar. Do you live in Spain or Gib? im starting a new job in Jan 2015 there and will be relocating deciding whether to be based in gib or south Spain. Any information would be great. Also how is life out there?

    Thanks,

    James

I'm currently working in Customer Support here for an online Casino. I don't know about hotels or restaurants, the pay or anything related just that accommodation inside Gibraltar is barely affordable with any average income.

I rent in La Linea which costs much less, I found an English speaking real estate agent here and some of my friends here did the same.

Coming here without having a job might be hard tho so I'd recommend contacting recruiters via LinkedIn or other websites to get a hols of some nice opportunities and decide once you have work here to com. Most companies pay the relocation and help the first month with accommodation, and that is really a big help! ;)

IF I ONLY SPEAK SOLO SPANISH AND ENGLISH. WOULD BE OK.....?

Well I came down here already having a Job. I would recommend you to check up front, even tho there are plenty of Jobs in Gib, most of them are for people speaking a "foreign" language, Swedish, Finnish, German, Russian, those are very desired but also a native level of English is always required.

Hope you find something that suits you!
