How difficult is it to find an english speaking job in Belgium?

Објављено на Белгија Форум

Hi, I am a native english speaker and I am moving to Belgium in a month.
I have been looking for jobs in Belgium and noticed that most jobs require dutch/french/german.

Has anyone been in this situation and how did you deal with it?
I am planning on starting flemish lessons as soon as I arrive to learn it as quick as possible.

Any tips would be appreciated, thanks

If you still need help with polishing your English, you can try language exchange with me. I teach English as a Second Language.

I am in the same situation as you Sara. I am a native spanish speaker, I know english but i don´t know neither english nor french and it is really difficult to get a job

I have just moved to Bruxelles from Madrid and I am interest in knowing people just to improve my english and of course my french!!

Lots of job offers ask for English and either French or Dutch, but if I were you I would still apply for these jobs too because you'll notice that English is used as a business language or a neutral language between the two. So generally if your skills are what theyre looking for then they will accept the language limitation. This mostly applies to jobs in Brussels or only to international companys based outside brussels though. good luck, bonne chance etc!

    Hi Sarah,

If you're interested in teaching English, try Berlitz (www.berlitz.be). They are always looking for native English speakers, and it's a good job to get you started here (while you look for a job that suits your experience/interests). It's also a nice job to get to know a lot of people and other foreigners (the other teachers).
And you get a discount or even free lessons if you want to learn another language!

    Good luck!

    Annelies
